My name is Calleigh (pronounced Callie), I’m a senior Honors Earth and Environmental Science major at the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA. While I live in Virginia now, I grew up in the beautiful garden state of New Jersey, where my interactions with nature as a child drove my love for environmental science. Within environmental science my primary interest is the remediation of organic and inorganic pollutants using plants (phytoremediation).
I’m currently conducting undergraduate research exploring the use of Dipsastraea Speciosa corals as climate proxies to better understand how El Nino Southern Oscillation events are changing in the Tropical Central Pacific. Through this, I have developed a deeper understanding of data analysis and scientific writing.
My interest in our planet’s health is forever growing and expanding, driving my study of the sciences. To further my studies, I hope to attend graduate school for biogeochemistry.
