Writing and Presentation Skills

Biological Statistics and Research Design was one of the most important classes I took in college. With the focus being on writing and interpreting results from experiments, it has done a lot to shape the scientist I am today. My final paper was developed around a theoretical topic of pollution remediation; I generated and analyzed data on how oil eating bacteria could be used to clean oil spills. Through the class I developed scientific writing and research skills, as well as utilized data programs such as R studio. These skills helped me to interpret and share my undergraduate research findings, both inside and outside of the classroom.

My final paper on using bacteria as oil spill remediation; compiling background research, generated data and data analysis using R Studio.

Along with my writing and digital skills, this class required a presentation summarizing my study and findings. While the paper had 6 pages of curated data analysis, the presentation challenged me to highlight the main points. My Biological Statistics class prepared me to write my manuscripts for my coral research as well as highlight the main points at conference presentations. Developing this writing skill helped me to write abstract for scientific conferences and as well as provided me with oral communication skills to share my findings.

A digital presentation of my final paper I made using Microsoft PowerPoint.
