My Into to GIS class helped me to feel more comfortable with technology and incorporating it with scientific research. This map depicts forest fires in Oregon in 2024, a culmination of many projects in the class. At first the idea of making a full map was daunting, but with each assignment I was able to incorporate information and better my technological skills.

A map of Wildfires in Wheeler County, OR in 2024 I created using ArcGIS.

Not only through GIS but in my Energy Resources and Technology class we were tasked with creating and mapping a green energy system for the town of Ithaca, NY. We used Google Earth for this, and after much research about optimal locations and really working to understand how these locations were utilized by the public, we were able to map it. This fly through video was created to propose the locations of each green energy site and give an idea of how the sites would look. This project added so much depth to our presentation about renewable energy and allowed us to understand the real-life implications of technology. While both of these maps are useful projects they apply less directly to my interest in scientific research.

Virtual fly through of proposed renewable energy sites in Ithaca, NY I created with Google Earth.

On the other hand, my projects with R Studio and MATTLAB programs allowed me to make higher quality graphs and interpret data.
